Top Spa Treatments – How Long Should A Waxing Last?

So you’re off to the spa for a waxing. Need those smooth legs for vacation? But how long will it last?

Top Spa Treatments - How Long Should A Waxing Last? The standard answer is up to six weeks, but even that has its own “it depends…” First thing, after you wax, you may notice that smaller hairs were missed. It’s important to be sure that when you are going in for a waxing, that you allow the hair in the area to be waxed to grow to at least a quarter of an inch. That lets the wax get a good hold on the hair. If you take the time to be sure that most of the hair is waxed out, then re-growth is less likely to be heavier.

How fast it grows back depends on three things: hair growth cycle; your personal hair growth cycle; and breakage. There are three stages of hair growth, growing, resting and transitional. At any given time 80 – 90% of hair follicles are in the growing phase 2-3% in the transitional phase and 10/15% in the resting phase.

That means that there is going to be some hair under the skin growing that may reach the surface, even within days of your appointment. Your best bet is to make waxing appointments every 2 to 4 weeks after the first one to remove all of the growing hair. Hair on different parts of the body grows at different rates as well, and may be thick or dark in some places and light and fine in others.

Age, season, hormone levels and genetics play a large part as well. Your leg waxing may or may not last as long as your bikini waxing, or facial waxing. When hair is removed, sometimes it isn’t removed all the way to the root, but is broken off. If this happens, it will grow in much more quickly than if the entire root is removed. As above, the more often you wax, the more hair is removed.

Also, repeatedly using any method that removes hair from the root on a regular basis will often cause the follicle to be damaged over time and the hair eventually will come in finer, and may just stop growing.

So when using spa services for waxing, regular appointments will be your best bet. For more information visit the Safety Harbor Spa Page!
